The Annual Long Island Corporate Challenge

September 29, 2009 05:48 PM

The annual Long Island Tennis Challenge was delayed a day because of rain which caused 2 teams to drop out, but that couldn’t dampen the spirits of the remaining competitors.  The courts at Broadway Park in Sayville, courtesy of the Town of Islip, were filled with enthusiastic players. Using the World Team Tennis format – gender singles and doubles and mixed doubles – the winner was not decided until the last match, with the Sportime Executive team (Roe Kaffa, captain) edging the Town of Islip team (Kevin Tuohy, captain) by a grand total of 2 games.

In addition to trophies for the winners and runners up, each player received a complementary t shirt, water bottle, and hat, and many other prizes were raffled off. Additional trophies were presented to the male and female players that exhibited the best sportsmanlike conduct -- Roula Saffi & Kevin Tuohy.

Thanks go to our generous sponsors Long Island Tennis Associates, Sportime tennis clubs (providing many of the raffle prizes), US Professional Tennis Association, Advantage Tennis Shop, USTA Eastern Long Island Region, and Outback Restaurants, which provided the hungry crowd with a wonderful onsite barbeque.
