Nassau High School Tournament

October 31, 2009 07:56 PM
Nassau will be represented at the 2009 NYS High School Championships by 9 excellent tennis players.

Blair Seideman of Jericho High School dominated the Nassau County Tournament by only dropping 2 games in 4 rounds of play. Blair's all around game combines power, consistency, and precision. Nationally ranked Blair leads a strong single's contingent of returning State participants.

Jacqueline Raynor of Garden City High school lost to Blair in the finals but is returning to the States for the 4th consecutive year. Combined with her sister Kelsey, now playing for Marist, Jacqueline finished 3rd, 2nd, and 1st at the States in doubles the past 3 years. This year, Jackie brings her high powered game to the single's draw. Hannah Camhi of Syosset High School returns to the States to try to improve on her 2008 quarter final appearance where she lost to eventual State Champion Jennifer Kellner of Suffolk County.

Our doubles teams are all making their first State appearance. The County Tournament featured several top double's teams. The competition was intense. Several matches went to 3 sets. Emerging victorious were Missy Edelblum and Paige Mintz who defeated their Roslyn High School teammates Marissa Bernstein and Samantha Richman in 3 sets to claim the Nassau County Championships. Rounding out our doubles team are Massapequa High School's Jessica Sickles and Megan Tamborino who displayed great determination and skill in their matches.
