6th Annual Tennis Blitz in the Parks Continues The Tradition

Tennis Blitz in the Parks was conceived and organized by Bill Mecca, the USTA Eastern Long Island Region Tennis Service Representative who, working along Karen Beckhard Ravener from the Nassau County Department of Parks, ensured that all participants, young and old, had an outstanding tennis experience.
The event was held at six Nassau County Parks: Eisenhower Park, Nickerson Beach, North Woodmere, Cantiague Park, Cow Meadow Park and Wantagh Park and was attended by Nassau County camp participants, Oasis Camp participants, Roslyn Day camp participants, residents and special needs children.
Tennis Blitz in the Parks is open to all players, Nassau County campers of all ages and skills. It features the latest 10 & Under  teaching techniques and methodology, and where appropriate, uses modified racquets, balls and courts. According to Mecca, after Arthur Ashe Kids Day, this event is arguably the largest of such events in the country, and to date, nearly 7,000 children and adults have benefitted from the many positive attributes of playing tennis.
The success of the Blitz in the Parks program is the due to the generosity of many people and organizations, including the USTA, USTA Eastern and many of the USTA Long Island volunteers.
