Gigi Fernandez to Be Special Guest at USTA LI Awards Dinner

Tennis legend Gigi Fernandez will be the special guest at the 27th Annual USTA Eastern Long Island Region Awards Dinner on May 3rd, the group has announced.

Gigi Fernandez is the winner of two Olympic Gold Medals and an astounding 71 titles on the WTA tour including two singles, 52 doubles and 17 Grand Slam doubles titles. A tennis Hall of Fame member, Gigi is recognized as one of the best doubles players of all time. She will offer some remarks at the dinner and will be available to meet with attendees and answer questions.

The LI Region will celebrate the achievements -- both on the court and off -- of its members and member organizations at the awards dinner, which will take place at Chateau Briand Caterers in Carle Place, N.Y. Awards will be given in several categories including Prestigious and Excellence Awards, USTA League teams participating in their National championships, high school champions and junior and adult rankings. Heading the list of honorees are this year's Prestigious Award winners: Hy Zausner Lifetime Achievement Award --Steve Kaplan, Vitas Gerulaitis "For the Love of Tennis" Award -- Anneleis Karp, Arthur Ashe Multi-Cultural Award -- Anthony Brown, and Rose Buck Scalamandre Tennis Family of the Year Award -- The Kowalsky Family.
