September 2, 2015 03:49 PM

The 2014-15 season of Long Island’s annual CTC (Competition Training Centers) Program was a big hit, with 26 top junior tennis players ages 9-14 enjoying competitive training opportunities designed to motivate and encourage all to develop to their highest competitive level.

CTC helps young players develop competitive skills without worrying about rankings. The program, which supplements players’ training schedules and is not intended to replace any aspect of their regular training, each year assists about 2,000 players nationwide.

Locally the program comprised 12 sessions at facilities including: Huntington Indoor Tennis, Deer Park Indoor Tennis, Eastern Athletic Club, Robbie Wagner’s, Christopher Morley Tennis, Glenwood Landing, Garden City and Point Set Tennis. They played on the grass courts at the Piping Rock Club and enjoyed interclub play at the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills. This year’s program culminated in the Eastern Section Rally Day at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, which brought together players from all six Eastern Section Regions -- Long Island, Metro, Southern, Western, Northern and New Jersey.
