Memorial Event Scheduled: Long Island Mourns the Loss of Mo Schneider

After an incredible life of 90 years, Mo Schneider, Wheatley High School’s long-time tennis coach, died on August 23. The school invites the community to a celebration of Coach Schneider's life on Thursday, September 29 at 7:30 pm. In order to make this evening as celebratory as possible, the organization committee is asking those who knew Mo to share their thoughts in a variety of ways:

  • Send a photo to remembermo@ewsdmail.org to be included in a photo montage
  • Record a brief video (no more than 5 seconds) sharing a few thoughts about Mo. These video clips can be sent to remembermo@ewsdmail.org for inclusion in a video montage.
  • Share some of your thoughts in writing on the online memorial site: www.moschneider.com


The Wheatley School and East Williston School District have announced the passing of Mo Schneider, the most winning coach in Long Island High School tennis history. Coach Schneider coached both the boys and girls tennis teams at The Wheatley School for 50 years and was planning to return this season. He received the Charles Karp Memorial Award for Overcoming Adversity from the USTA Long Island Region in 2011.

Tom Fitzpatrick, CAA, Director of Physical Education, Health, Athletics, Medical Services and Family Consumer Science for the East Williston UFSD, The Wheatley School, said the school will hold a celebration of Coach Schneider’s life at the end of September at the school.  Details will be provided when available.
