*6:30 pm – Suffolk County Girls Varsity Awards Dinner.  Held at Villa Lombardi in Holbrook, more than 550 high school tennis players, their parents and their coaches attended this event at which approximately 370 awards were handed out in various categories.  The girls were very enthusiastic about tennis.  Organized by Joe Arias and the Suffolk County Junior Tennis League, the event heavily promoted Net Generation.

"Net Generation is our new youth program which offers free curriculum, free equipment and free training to each school that enrolls," said Neil Thakur, USTA Eastern Section Tennis Service Representative for Long Island . "The school year has started with several schools implementing the program in their elementary schools and we look forward to adding more as the school year progresses.

"As a game for life, studies show that kids who are exposed to tennis early are better students and learn wonderful life skills. Our elementary school program also helps feed the JV and Varsity teams by getting new players in the game," Thakur said.
