Solomon Three-Peats As Nassau Champ

Plainview JFK's Yuval Solomon won his third straight Nassau County singles championship this past weekend, accomplishing a feat unmatched since the 1960s.

The Nassau County boys high school championships, which took place at Oceanside High School, saw a lot of excitement including the crowning of of Eli Grossman & Preet Rajpal of Syosset High School as doubles champions.

In the singles title match, Solomon, who will be joining the Wake Forest University tennis team in September, defeated New Hyde Park’s Peter Siozios 6-0, 6-0. According to Mike Pavlides, USTA LI Region historian and past president, the last time any boy won the Nassau County singles title three straight years goes back to 1963-65 when Peter Fishbach won it playing for Great Neck North.

The top four singles players, all of whom will compete at the State championships, are: Solomnon (1), Siozios (2), Rajon Vohra, North Shore HS (3) and Daniel Weitz, Roslyn (4). Top four doubles finishers, who also will compete at States, are: Grossman & Rajesh (1), Zachary Khazam & Sanjin Song, Roslyn (2), Patrick Bodovitz & Tim Nacca, Garden City (3) and Jared Cohen & Josh Cohen, Roslyn 4).

The New York State Championships will take place from June 1-3 at the BJK National Tennis Center in Flushing.
