The USTA Eastern Section launched its Early Development Camp (EDC) program at Sportime Kings Park on October 17th for children ages seven-to-nine years old.

Session 1 of the four-session camp was led by Camp Director Jason Wass of Sportime Kings Park, Head Coach Jeff Rothstein, USTA Eastern Section  EDC Faculty Coach, and Akiko Tohmatsu, tennis coach. Three additional sessions will take place on November 21st, December 12th and February 6th (2016).

A new USTA Player Development initiative, the EDC’s focus is on intensive half-day Orange Ball training for young children. Orange ball tennis helps young players learn in a smaller setting that mimics larger/older players on a full-size court. One of the most critical stages of training, the Section encourages youngsters to train in orange ball tennis for as long as possible.

The camps will focus on groundstrokes, serve and return, transition and net game, and the all-court game. Each session includes four hours of training and competition focused on athletic, technical and tactical skill development and competition, plus a parent-information session.  For more information on the EDC program, please email bliss @eastern.usta.com. Camps will be limited to 12 players.
